What Matters Most to Our Community

This summer, we asked our donors to share what inspires their giving and what they value most when it comes to caring for older adults. Their thoughtful responses offered insight and reflected our shared values. At SFCJL, we believe that listening is foundational to a meaningful partnership. Gathering feedback is an essential part of ensuring our mission remains aligned with the priorities of those who support it.

Compassionate Care Rises to the Top

When asked to select the most important programs and services, 70% of respondents chose long-term care. This includes skilled nursing and assisted living services that reflect our longstanding reputation as a trusted home for those needing more support.

Following closely behind were memory and dementia care (59%) and post-acute rehabilitation (39%), underscoring just how vital our full spectrum of health services is to families navigating the aging journey. Whether someone is recovering from surgery or living with cognitive changes, donors recognize that specialized, person-centered care can change lives.

Interestingly, while cultural and spiritual programs didn’t top the list, their significance remains. From music and arts enrichment (28%) to Jewish and spiritual programs (17%), these offerings speak to the soul of our campus. They’re part of what makes SFCJL feel like home.

Why Give: A Deeper Motivation

So what drives our donors’ generosity?

At the heart of it is our focus on older adults, cited by 53% of donors. Our comprehensive healthcare services were close behind (51%), showing that donors are not only moved by mission—they’re inspired by our ability to deliver.

Many donors (41%) also emphasized their connection to our Jewish heritage, while nearly half (45%) have a personal link—a parent, grandparent, or loved one who lived at the Jewish Home and Rehab Center or Frank Residences. This speaks to something unique about SFCJL: we are not just a healthcare provider; we are a place where legacies are honored, and family histories continue.

Trust That Runs Deep

The numbers tell a powerful story of trust and belonging.

  • 93% of respondents would recommend us to friends and family.
  • 80% say they have a strong understanding of how their gift makes a difference.
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, donors ranked their relationship to SFCJL a solid 7—a meaningful score given the crowded landscape of nonprofits in the Bay Area.
